Weightloss Wednesdays: Fit Not Thin

I’m happy to announce that I’m a mere two pounds away from the nine-pound weight-loss mark I achieved a while back.

Eating has not been a priority for me…I’ve just been keeping my belly from growling too much.

My diet has pretty much consisted of peanut butter sandwiches on double fiber break and Greek yogurts.

But exercise…exercise is another sack of sugar.

For a while this winter, I actually enjoyed walking. My treks around the neighborhood were sacred strolls, just Jesus and me.

Then summer rolled around. From sun-up to sun-up, we have triple digit temperatures.

I’m pretty wimpy when it comes to intense heat. First of all, I’m about as white as Casper the Friendly Ghost. (I’m almost as friendly, too.) When I get hot, my face turns blood red; light-headedness soon follows. I won’t even mention how grouchy I get! It’s not pretty people.

I have some walking dvd’s, but the sacredness goes out the window with those. Leslie Sansone is cute as she can be, but she’s no Jesus.

Friends tell me to value myself enough to take some time for myself every day.

I have no problem with that!

I do take time for myself.

I write under the cool breeze of the ceiling fan.

Not much of a calorie/fat burner, but the mental and emotional benefits are miraculous!

Despite all my excuses, I know I must commit to regular exercise. I can lose weight without it, but the end result will be a saggy, droopy mess.

I want to be fit, not just thin.

I want to be energetic, not draggy.

I want to be able to hike to scenic spots and brag on God about His handiwork.

Since school started, I’ve been waking the boys up at six and then going back to bed til seven.

Tomorrow morning, I will get the boys moving and then get their momma moving. I’m going to try walking outside in the morning and see if I can ignore the heat via an i-pod full of Mandisa songs. If it’s too rough, I’ll settle for ol’ Leslie.

Check on me, will ya? I need to be harassed a bit, so this is your official permission to be my personal Jillian Michaels. Don’t let me off the hook. Don’t accept my excuses.

Lord, thank you for helping me reel in my eating. Please help me to push through the morning sleepies and exercise. I know it’ll be good for me; good for my body, mind, and spirit. See you in the morning!

Weightloss Wednesday Week Five: I’m Packin’ My Walking Shoes

Guess what?

I exercised last night!

You have no idea what a miracle that is for me.

My sweetie suggested that we start walking around our huge cul de sac in the evenings after he finishes up with his guitar lessons.

So, last night, that’s just what we did. Four trips around equals 1.2 miles. We figure we’ll add an additional lap each week until we are up to some serious mileage….you know…like 2-3 miles. I’m no Runner Mom!

The stifling AZ heat is finally diminishing, so the temperatures are quite comfy and the starry skies are inspiring.

Cliff and I are rediscovering the simple pleasure of just being together.

Tonight, two of our three boys joined us.

Logan ran, rode the bike, and did tricks on the scooter.

Jacob sped around on his bike doing scientific experiments involving bike speed and spit trajectory. (Don’t ask)

This week, I actually went up two tenths of a pound, but I feel like my clothes are fitting better.

Laila, the handy dandy computer tech at our school thrilled me by saying in her luscious Middle Eastern accent, “Guhl, you are losing veight!”

Another tremendous thing happened that will greatly enhance my ability to lose weight and feel better. My chiropractor suggested I let him use electric stimulators on my lower back.

Oh. My. Gosh!

I can’t get over how much better my back felt! I had the therapy Saturday, and today is the first day I’ve felt any back strain. I will so be heading over there Friday to get “stimmed” again before I go to the Women of Faith Conference with my best buddies, Alice and Michelle.

Oh…and are you wondering why my blog post title is “I’m Packin’ My Walking Shoes”?

Monday morning, my mom and I fly out to Shreveport, LA to spend five days with my sister, Karla! We are all completely beside ourselves with anticipation!

Karla keeps texting me a countdown each morning.

I can’t wait to get my hands on my beautiful sister who is trying to adjust to life without her love, Buddy, who passed in August.

Mom and I will fly back home on Friday, October 9th, and then my three boys will fly out on Saturday, the 10th, to go spend the following week with Aunt Karla. She generously paid for the boys to fly in to Dallas. She’s going to pick them up and take them to spend the night at some hotel/lodge with a water park in it, and then, on Sunday, they will go to Six Flags. How spoiled are they?

Shoot, how spoiled am I? I will have a week of peace and quiet at my sister’s and then another one in my own home with my sweetie. I love my boys and all, but a break from their bickering will be nice…I’m not gonna lie.

I’m going to take my walking shoes with me to LA and do some serious hiking through Karla’s lush, green woods behind her house. Maybe I’ll even ride horses with my sweet sis.

Can you tell I’m excited?

Ok…to make it official, here are my statistics for this week.

Last week: 231.4

This week: 231.6 +.2
