Five Minute Fridays: Momma Ache

It’s Friday, and you know what that means…it’s time to write for five minutes flat about whatever Lisa-Jo decides. Come on…you know you want to try it. This week, the word is ACHE. Let’s see what bubbles out of my heart today.

Ready, set, GO!

All Grown Up

He lies in the bedroom next to mine…crumpled comforter covering his broad shoulders. Dreams of college, career, and creative ventures caress his mind.

The boy who made me a momma is almost grown.

But he still calls me Momma…moreso the closer he gets to his graduation day.

He knows it’s the name I prefer. Not Mom, but Momma.

He used to save the name for when he wanted something…a ride to a friend’s house or an extra 10 bucks.

But now, he uses my favorite name just because. Just because he loves me. Just because he knows my momma heart aches that he’s growing so fast.

Just because he’s my boy and he doesn’t ever want me to forget it.

Five Minute Friday: What Color is Joy?

It has been a while since I participated in The Gypsy Mama’s Five Minute Friday series, but, hey…why not today?

The rules are simple: set your timer and write about the key word for five minutes flat. Link your post to The Gypsy Mama’s post, and be sure to check out some of the other linked posts and leave lovey dovey comments.

Pretty easy, huh?

The week, the word is….COLOR.

Ready…set….GO!

Choose joy. Choose joy.

Every where I look, I’m reminded that joy is a choice.

Truth is, joy is a gift ready and waiting to be unwrapped, enjoyed, and cherished.

A gift paid for with crimson currency. A gift free to me because it cost Christ everything.

I don’t choose joy every day. Some days, the charcoal gray cloud of self-focus drowns out every hue.

But when I choose joy. When I choose to let the Son beam, golden, through my cloud, my perspective transforms and colors burst from everything.

From my three sons’ ceaseless chatter, all anticipating new adventures.

From my husband’s clicking fingers, loving my new website into existence.

From my own restless, wrestling heart, on the threshold of a new year of opportunities.

I will choose to color my days with joy…joy bought and paid for…joy with my name engraved in red.

What color is your joy?

*Confession…this post took more than five minutes but less than eight.
